Swinging is the debut album from Sugar Cones, the “sweet and sour” problem children of Killing Field Records.
It’s ten tracks of controlled chaos, opening with a paranoid talking crustacean on “Boiled Lobster” and closing with the drop of the blade on “Guillotine.” In between, you get warped flexes like “Mr. Fancy,” sugar-rush anthems, and full-on car-crash moments like “Running Into Oncoming Traffic.”
The record pulls in the whole KFR universe: Jinx shows up on “25 Cents/Cranberry Sauce,” enemyX and theyAreGhost join the melee on “Killing Field,” and Captain VIII helps torch “America’s Rejects,” with Bryan “Cryptic-X” Jenkins lurking all over the production. Beats come courtesy of Cryptic-X, Jinx, Captain VIII, Legion Beats, ODYSSEY BEATS, and Protagonist, stitched together into one short, unhinged ride.
Swinging was released during Four Winds Music Festival in Omaha, Nebraska, where Sugar Cones and the rest of Killing Field Records tore through a set at Reverb Lounge in front of a nearly sold-out crowd. The album landed in the wild the same way it sounds on record: loud, messy, and alive.
Swinging is available in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music for anyone who wants the madness in surround.
Released August 4, 2023 by Killing Field Records.
Tracked, mixed, and mastered by Bryan “Cryptic-X” Jenkins.
Recorded at Killing Field Records, The Fields.
